Yuanmu Yang

Yuanmu Yang is a tenured Associate Professor in the Department of Precision Instrument at Tsinghua University. He received his B.Eng. from Tianjin University (2011) and Ph.D. from Vanderbilt University (2015, advisor: Prof. Jason Valentine), followed by postdoctoral research at Sandia National Laboratories (2015–2017, with Dr. Igal Brener) and a research scientist role at Intellectual Ventures (2017–2018), where he was a founding team member of Lumotive, a metasurface-based solid-state lidar startup. His research centers on novel planar meta-optics and minimalist multidimensional optical imaging and sensing.

He has published over 60 papers in leading journals including Nature Photonics, Nature Physics, and eLight, with more than 9,000 citations on Google Scholar, and has been selected as a Highly Cited Researcher in China for four consecutive years since 2022. He has delivered more than 50 invited talks at Stanford University, SPIE Photonics West, and other leading venues. His awards include Tsinghua University’s Young Faculty Award (2024) and inclusion in Stanford’s World’s Top 2% Scientists since 2020.
